I am not interested in Phones or Games, just small footprint embedded Java

For obvious reasons, the Mobile and Embedded sphere is overrun with discussions about Samsung and Nokia and all the cool multi-media applications which are being developed. This is fine, but where do I go if I am looking for some discussion about getting into the embedded Java field for more mundane purposes! I come from the Factory Automation field and would love to investigate the usefulness of JavaME as a cross-device platform for data communication!!! We have proprietary or MS, don't know which is worse!!

Could someone point me in a direction?

Indeed, Roger is right. I stand corrected. Thanks for the update.

You're correct. The SunSPOT team is working on making it available in other countries but there are regulatory hurdles they must clear before they can go on sale elsewhere.

One more thing: You might want to check out SunSPOTs and the activity around them. We are currently working with the SunSPOT folks to provide closer ties to the M&E Community. Stay tuned for more to come soon:

Hi Terence,

Sorry for the late reply. Not sure if you've received any answers yet. Our Mobile & Embedded Community (http://www.mobileandembedded.org) really targets the *entire* embedded space even if, as you state "for obvious reasons" ;-) the majority of content and discussions is around phones and mobile devices.

A testament to the embedded nature is that fact that the Embedded Java Community (https://embeddedjava.dev.java.net/) chose to join the Mobile & Embedded Community very early on.

We have many experienced Java ME developers and experts in this community so I think the chances of finding like-minded folks here who are interested in topics beyond mobile are good. I would encourage you to take the initiative and start to get involved.

Cheers,

Thanks Terence. I will follow the forums and throw in questions as they arise.
