send and receive data between phone and server

I am developing a mobile application which send a String to a server through http and wireless network, and receiving an image back from the server depending of what string the client sent...

Have anyone done something like this before? I was wondering if I could get some tips on how to set up the communication. I am using j2ee on the serverside and j2me on the client.

You could also consider using the RMI feature of J2ME Polish:

There have been lot's of improvements since the last official release, which are available here:

Just make a HttpConnection and pass the string in the url (if it's not too
long). Then get the response's inputstream and plug it into
Image.createImage.

Thank you for the quick reply. Do you have any experience with setting up an j2ee server?
