Applying Java Performance Tuning 2nd Edition to Mustang

I have been reading this book, and am wondering how much of the tuning tips I can apply to the current java implementation.

In previous posts, I have found out that some of these optimizations are not necessary, as the JIT performs them. eg. such as loop unrolling etc.

what tips can I apply, where there is a difference in performance.

Thanks in advance for all responses.

depends, some are many aren'nt. E.g. its still a good idea to not create garbage or throw too many Exceptions.

This will interest you, some tuning tips and how they impact on modern JVMs:

There are also older versions (i guess from 2003, 2004) where your exception-terminated loop was shown to perform worse than a well-counted loop.
