Wonderland APIs

I'm curious, what (if any) sorts of APIs will Wonderland expose to
LG3D applications?

One of the goals of Wonderland is the creation and sharing of
user-generated content. Will there be an interface for applications to
access this content? For example, could it be possible to create an
application that skins itself using models made available through
Wonderland?

I'm kicking around ideas for this year's SoC. :-) Wonderland probably
will be just getting started by then, so I doubt I'll get to write a
Wonderland-based app for SoC. I'm still curious, though.

The LG3D client API, of course, will be available. This will provide the ability to create graphics objects, specify their appearance, animate them, receive events on them, etc. Then there will be an distributed object API (implemented using the facilities of the Darkstar game server) which will allow multiple people to visualize and interoperate with 3D objects. Also, there will be the Darkstar APIs themselves which will allow people to write programs that live on the server and which coordinate the activities of multiple clients and manage the distributed graphics objects.

I'm also looking at using a program called Art of Illusion (artofillusion.org) and adapting it to become an in-world modeller and animator for Wonderland (right now all of the modelling and animating is done outside wonderland in programs such as blender or 3DSmax. It would be great to have help with this kind of a project.

Our goal for Wonderland is for people who are already knowledgeable about
the LG APIs to be able to start programming interesting applications at leat by the time SOC begins. Hopefully we'll achieve that goal.

did you plan to adapt it as a 3D Application or as normal Swing application?

I see that it depend alot of Buoy, a free user-interface (UI) tool kit built on top of Swing, and use JOGL as render engine. this make it hard to port it as a pure LG 3D app. porting it will make it no more Art Of Illusion!
what is your vision about using it as in-world modeller?
