RE: [JAVAHELP] JavaHelp localization issue

Thanks, David. I forwarded this to my developer, and this is what he
said back:

"I tried fixing them and re-compiling and it still didn't work. Does
anyone have a correct, working jhall.jar with the correct
Constants_xx.class files?"

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks!

Hey Arnold! I was actually looking at this yesterday! The tooltip
names for Japanese are still in the previous 1.1.3 format:

// ToolTips for Action
{ "tip.BactionAction", ...},
{ "tip.ForwardAction", ...},
{ "tip.PrintAction", ...},
{ "tip.PrintSetupAction", ...},
{ "tip.ReloadAction", ...},
{ "tooltip.FavoritesAction", ...},
{ "tooltip.HomeAction", ...},

Notice the difference between 'tip.ForwardAction' and
'tooltip.FavoritesAction'. For 2.0_02 the tooltip name should be
'tooltip.ForwardAction'. This applies to 'tip.BactionAction'
(misspelled as well), 'tip.PrintAction', 'tip.PrintSetupAction', and
'tip.ReloadAction' as well.

What is happening is JavaHelp version 2.0_02 is looking for tooltips by
the new property name but is not finding them for Japanese so it is
defaulting to English.

Hi,

We have translated our JavaHelp to Japanese successfully, but the
JavaHelp browser's toolbar tool tips still show up in English. The
tabbed pane icon headers' tool tips are translated just fine, but not
the toolbar icons above them (Previous Page, Next Page, Print and Page
Setup). Any idea why this is happening? We are using JavaHelp 2.0_02
and it appears that Japanese is one of the included supported languages
for the JH browser (includes a Constants_ja.class).

Thanks,

Arnold Burian

Thanks. From my developer:

The latest open source version (2.0_04) still has the bad key
(tooltip.BactionAction) in the Constants_ja.java for Japanese. Are we
supposed to fix this ourselves with the Technical Compatibility Kit
(TCK)?

Thanks.

Yep...Welcome to the world of open source. You can file a bug with the
suggested fix and fix it. Send an email to the
owner@javadesktop.dev.java.net to get approval for putbacks.

First of all he can't use jhall.jar if it came from sun. You can't
recompile under that license. There is the open source version which
means you would have to distribute it.

The solution we came up with is to use the open source version and add our translation (Dutch). I also requested for the translation to be added to JavaHelp, so we maybe don't have to use our own version and don't have to redistrubute it.

Roger Brinkley

First of all he can't use jhall.jar if it came from sun. You can't
recompile under that license. There is the open source version which
means you would have to distribute it.
