J2ME Widget Library

Hi,

I am investigating on how to create effective UI widgets for a J2ME
applications. MIDP widget library seems to me a little rude or
incomplete. I'd like to have Tab Panel, Huge List Items, List Items
with sublists and so on.

I have seen some ready to use widget library around the net. My question is:
- what are you using?
- what is the stategy for creating my custom widgets? Using low level
API of lcdui?

tnx
-Piero

Hi,

If u are asking the open source code for MIDP-2, Sun's phoneME
project(https://phoneme.dev.java.net/) should be the answer where u can
get related open source code of CLDC/MIDP-2.

Hi,

is somebody aware of an open source widget library for MIDP-2?

I think for many J2ME developer this would be of great help. My guess
is, that the majority of mobile content providers are very small shops.
Having a compelling open source widget library would let them
concentrate on developing the business logic of their apps and
respectively improve their business model.

Stephan

I like this question, by the way. I hope you get lots of responses.

I think most top-notch MIDlets use a custom GUI developed in-house.

A good number of these are full-screen, which precludes any use of
LCDUI's Form-based UI. (Except for text entry, where it's still
generally needed.)

Another significant problem of the Form-based UI is, surprisingly, its
unpredictable and erratic placement of softkey labels.

If you develop your own widgets, I would look to the following for
inspiration (in alpha order).

J2ME Polish
TWUIK
UIEvolution (which I had a hand in creating)
Widsets

It would great to make a list of killer MIDlets cross-referenced by GUI toolkit.
