Hi everyone.

I tried the live-cd, IMPRESSIVE!
I saw that my computer can run it with no problems, so I tried to install it in gnewsense (a GNU/Linux distribution, its just like ubuntu, but 100% free, with no propietary bloobs or things like that).

The installation was so easy, but when I start a session in Looking Glass, it runs so slowly.

If I run the glxinfo command in gnome, i returns:

But when I run it in the Looking Glass session, some things change:

What is happening??
Why do those things change?

I have a Pentium 4 with 2'40GHz, 512MB of RAM(aprox) and my graphic card is a 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device with 64 of VRAM (not completely sure about this VRAM, but as I said before, the live-cd runs nice, so my card can do it).

Why is Direct rendering going down every time I try to enter the Looking glass session.

ps:as I said before, gnewsense is just like Ubuntu, so I instaled looking glass like in a ubuntu, using the repositories and apt.

ps: Looking glass looks really great, congratulations to everybody in the project.

ps: Sorry for my english.

You need to install a hardware accelerated version of OpenGL, you are using software rendering at the moment.

It's 'challenging' to find 100% free hardware accelerated drivers as the chip specs are proprietry. The best drivers for linux in my experience are those from Nvidia, the public ATI driver have various issues which you can read about in these forums.

Good luck.

Why even bother when lg3d requires a closed-source version of Java to
begin with? (Eventually it will be opened, but we're not there yet.)

FWIW, I use nVidia's closed-source drivers, and they rock.

I tried (more than one year ago) to make it work with a free JVM. But they
weren't compatible with Java 5, and most of them still aren't. And now, LG3D
requires Java 6...
But be patient, Java7 is already partially opened (Compiler + VM, the classes
are coming...)
