Sony Ericsson Phones (e.g. k800) with 'camera' softkeys...

Hi,

I've just had a QA report that one of my titles is freezing when the
top softkeys that take you to the camera images on various SE phones
are pressed.

I checked - and it's actually happening across *all* my titles (all
the ones tested anyway)!!

Does anyone know what actually happens in the KVM when these keys are
pressed? Anything odd that goes on?

cheers

It's ok with our Ê750 and W810.

Hi James,

on the W810i, you just receive a regular keyPressed event with a
negative keyCode (-25 if pressed slightly and -26 for a "full" press).

I think SonyEricsson phones throw exceptions when some of the keycode
information/translation methods (getGameAction() etc.) are called with
some negative values, perhaps this may be the reason for your
application to hang?

On Nokia phones (and probably others) it is much worse: The special keys
are there, but they are not supported via keyPressed() at all....

Best regards,
Stefan

One possibility is that you aren't catching the exception thrown by
getGameAction() when you call it on the key codes passed in by those buttons.

Excellent suggestion!

I haven't looked into it yet but that could well be it, cheers!

Could it be that the your midlet's
MIDlet.pauseApp(), followed after a while by MIDlet.startApp(), gets called?
