Allen,

JTHarness is just a tool for running tests. You need to have tests. Is you question about “how to write tests for JVM testing” actually? If so the following documents could help you:
http://java.sun.com/javame/meframework/docs/tck_project_planning_guide.pdf
http://java.sun.com/javame/meframework/docs/testsuite_devguide.pdf

If you goal is to test OpenJDK-based implementations that are distributed under the GPL the following page can contain interesting information for you:
http://www.sun.com/software/opensource/java/

Is my answer helpful for you?

Dear Allen,

I think it would be right to start learning the tutorial.

This tutorial introduces you to the JT harness version 4.1.1 GUI and some basic underlying concepts. The tutorial instructions have you run a very simple test suite called Demo Test Suite that is included in the examples directory. Demo Test Suite contains 17 tests that test the functionality of some very simple demo APIs.

In order to run the sample test suite:
1.Build the JT harness as described in the JT Harness Build Instructions - https://jtharness.dev.java.net/jt_buildinfo.html
2.After the build completes, you will find tutorial.html in the BUILD_DIR/examples/tutorial directory
3.Load tutorial.html into your browser and follow the instructions

You mentioned you are going to test Java Virtual System. For such task you need to have test harness and the test suite. As for the harness JTHarness is definitely right choice and I've already described how to learn the harness functionality. The articles provided by the following links can help you to develop strong test suite according your needs:

http://java.sun.com/javame/meframework/docs/tck_project_planning_guide.pdf
http://java.sun.com/javame/meframework/docs/testsuite_devguide.pdf

I hope that is helpful.

Dear Allen,

Of course you can use JTHarness for JVM testing. Actually SUN uses commercial version of JTHarness for all its TCKs/JCKs.

This is general-purpose test harness. If finds tests, runs them, manages results, generates reports and has a lot of service functionality. It can be customized and serve big test suites with thousands of tests.

You can find many useful documentation about the project at https://jtharness.dev.java.net/jt_docs.html
I think it is better to start with User's gude - http://java.sun.com/javame/javatest/docs/javatest_gui.pdf

Also there are a lot of interesting information at Alexey Popov's blog http://weblogs.java.net/blog/alexeyp

If you have any specific questions please feel free to ask us.

Hi bkurotsu,
I'm very glad to ask you question.I think above question which I asked is not too clear.
I don't clear what we use the jtharness to test, hardware(equipment) or software(my JVM or other thing). And how to use the harness to make test.
my tool (jtharness and framewok) is OK,I don't know how to use it.
can you tell me?
thanks ,
allen
