Does the license of JAI-ImageIO 1.1 allow redistribution of only a jar file ?
I want to redistribute only jai_imageio.jar in jai_imageio-1_1-lib-linux-i586.tar.gz .

I don't believe so but don't take my word for it. Please read the license and look for "distribution". I think you're supposed to distributed the whole thing if you start from our binary distribution. This does not stop you however from settting a system property which disables the native layer.

On the other hand if you build the jar file yourself from the CVS then I speculate that you could redistribute the jar alone as the source is BSD.

The foregoing is entirely my speculation and not the legal position of Sun Microsystems, Inc. which is spoken for by the license which applies to the situation at issue.

Hi, Brian. Thank you for your reply!

I'll try to build the jar file from the sources.

I redistribute the jar with our software and add image formats that my software can write .

When you do so you might want to grab the file versions with CVS tag
"jai-imageio-1_1-fcs" so that your build corresponds to a known point. See

https://jai-imageio.dev.java.net/cvs-tags.html

for more information.

Result of ImageIO.getReaderFormatNames();
####ReaderFormatNames#####
jpeg gif png JPG jpg JPEG

Result of ImageIO.getWriterFormatNames();
#####WriterFormatNames#####
jpeg JPG png jpg PNG JPEG

My installed java is j2sdk1.4.2_08. I think these formats is default.

To add gif to writableFormats, I must use jai-imageio.
