I'm now trying to get lg running on gentoo because I lost my battle with ubuntu :D
Now, I think I've installed everything I need, but I get this error while compiling:

Buildfile: build.xml

init-props:

setupSolarisx86:

setupLinuxx86:

setupLinuxx86_64:

setupWindows:

doesX11Exist:

setupPlatform:

BUILD FAILED
/home/raffo/projects/lg3d-core/build.xml:121: Class org.apache.tools.ant.taskdefs.ConditionTask doesn't support the "else" attribute.

Total time: 1 second

Well it's not a great thing... can you help me??

In this topic I wrote all my problems with ubuntu: http://forums.java.net/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=17399&tstart=15

Ubuntu is very easy and powerful, but when something goes wrong is not as easy... I also found that it don't handle java as well as gentoo.

I'm using ubuntu because of it's great binary support, but I still think that gentoo is easier for a lot of things...

So are you using Ubuntu or gentoo ? Either way please be sure to test the out the 1.0 beta 1 bits when they are ready and give us your feedback.

Cheers

Under ubuntu I'm still not able to handle the error.
Under Gentoo (sabayon linux) the beta works, but I'm not able to run xterm and firefox (and I think other external apps too)... I'm gonna post in the beta topic.

What sort of problems have you been having with Ubuntu? Other than problems with virtual terminals not being supported by the Nvidia driver that comes with the distro I haven't had many problems with Ubuntu. It was a little involved to set up as an LG development environment but I can tell you how to do that. Most people find Ubuntu pretty easy to install and use.

Have you tried appending vga=791 to your kernel options? I have to do
that to get the virtual terminals to work with my nvidia - but that is
more to do with the 1280x800 resolution that the card itself.

One thing that may be worth doing for the bundled java 1.6 jdk ubuntu
deb package is to add the java into the /etc/alternatives setup - I'll
have a look at how this is done in some of the other debs - otherwise
installing and compiling seems fine to me.
