Data Wants to Be Free
Service-oriented Architecture liberates data from tyranny of the Application, this is one of SOA's virtues.
Since the advent of electronic data processing, the Application has stood as absolute arbiter between people and information. Applications dictate which information is entered, determine how it's queried, prearrange which content is provided and prescribe in what form it's presented. These systems perpetuate the problem of erecting information stovepipes; inflexible structures that become shorter- and shorter-lived as information sharing and exchange needs evolve along with the organization.
