X.org is now modulated ... i posted the same question like 1/2 year ago.

Has something changed since then. Maybe X.org 8.x gives posibility to run LG3D "from box". LG3D has also chaned a lot since last my post...

What do you mean "run LG3D from box?" We already have a script (lg3d-app) which runs LG inside a window within GNOME or KDE. Is this what you are referring to?

I have just integrated code into the CVS to do this. In lg3d-core/src/devscripts is a script add-lg-to-gdm which, when run as root, will create a gdm session type call "Looking Glass". When this is selected by the user this will launch lg3d-app in full-screen mode instead of metacity. (Note: lg3d-session is deprecated, at least for now).Please give this a try and let me know if you have any problems.

Hi,

It's working under Fedora Core 3 (I've only changed the path to the lg3d directory). Thanks a lot! It's very convenient.

Just a heads up: If you forget to run the script in super user mode, it still reports "Success", even though it's obviously not a success. :-)

Except for that, this looks cool.

Thanks for the info. Could you please file a bug on this? Thanks.

I downloaded Looking Glass mega bundle for Linux today and set it up on Kubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn). The synaptic/apt install did not work. Then I looked at add-lg-to-gdm and created a lg3.desktop file by hand and copied it to /usr/share/apps/kdm/sessions. Now Looking Glass shows up in the list of window managers in the KDM logon page. It works. Here are the contents of my lg3d.desktop file:
[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Name=Looking Glass
Comment=This session logs you into the Looking Glass 3D desktop
Exec=/usr/share/lg3d/bin/lg3d-app-full
TryExec=/usr/share/lg3d/bin/lg3d-app-full
Icon=
Type=Application
X-Ubuntu-Gettext-Domain=desktop_kdebase

It seems to be using a 1.6 RC JDK (lg3d-jdk). Will it work with the final or current 1.6 JDK release (i.e. not RC)? My laptop is a Dell Latitude D800 with nVidia GeForce FX Go5200 and Open GL 1.3.

Yes it will work with the FCS JDK, although JDK 1.6 U1 may break the lg3d 1.0 release due to an internal api change.

The issue is fixed in lg3d-core trunk but there are some Wonderland assumptions in core at the moment. We'll fix it after JavaOne
