Debugging symbols, on Linux/Windows

One of the useful things Sun can do is to publish the debugging symbols for JDK binaries, so that when I attach gdb to a JVM process/core files, I will be able to examine what has gone wrong with proper stack trace, which will be tremedously helpful.

I believe one can provide the debugging files seperately on Linux (see RHEL 4 manual: http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/RHEL-4-Manual/gdb/separate...), and you can generate dbg file easily on Windows using compiler flags.

I second this. It would make it much easier if these files were readily available for debugging (especially in post-mortem situations) instead of having to recompile source to get them.
