Any perf advantage moving from 1.3.1_09 to 1.4 or 1.5?

Without changing any code or hardware, is there any innate advantage to moving from 1.3.1_09 to 1.4 or later?

Thanks in advance.

Well this of course depends on what your code is doing, it may also hit a known performance regression (like some code does which relies on the String/StringBuffer shared-char-buffer implementation), but such cases are very unlikely and often compensated by the better jvm implementations.

Escepcially when moving from such old versios (1.3) to something newer (5.0 or even mustang) its quite likely you'll see overall improvements. In some areas more than in others, but quite likely everywhere.

I would also encourage you to switch because of much better stability.

Yes there are significant improvements in the JVM. Some of my code is 20% faster on 1.5 than on 1.4.2.
