[JAI-IMAGEIO] When will the pure java JPEGReader be updated?

Ive previously had a problem with the imageio JPEGReader that was solved when I was prompted to get the latest verion of imageio stable beta and use the native JPEGReader, which did indeed solve my problem. However, the native libraries have proved too risky to be used due to the possibility of a total JVM crash when encountering erronous images.

My question is this, since obviously the native lib JPEGReader is more updated than the pure java one, when will you implement these changes in the pure java JPEGReader so that my problem can be solved without having to resort to the native libraries.

thanks.

Well this *is* a beta version after all. ;-)

As a matter of fact there is currently *no* non-native JPEG reader in either
Java SE or JAI Image I/O Tools. The Java SE JPEG reader uses native code
shipped inside the JVM and the JAI Image I/O Tools JPEG reader depends on
native code for decoding of the actual image data.

That said, we are aware that there are discrpancies between the Java SE JPEG
reader and the one in JAI Image I/O Tools and we hope over time to resolve
them but I cannot tell you when this migth be completed.

Meanwhile the best that I can suggest is that you file problems in the issue
tracker as you encounter them (including any test image data) and we will
endeavor to fix them as best we can.

Thanks,

Brian
