[JAI-IMAGEIO] HDF library for Java?

3 replies [Last post]

Perhaps mildly off-topic since HDF encompasses more than just image
data... but anyway...

Does anyone know of a Java implementation of the HDF library? I know
there are Java wrappers around the native code (apparently officially
supported by NSCA?), but is anyone working on, or know of, a pure Java
version? I'd rather avoid native code if possible for deployment reasons.

Thanks!

Bob,

Try http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/netcdf-java/

They seem to be building the next generation NetCDF on top of HDF5. Their
java implementation is read/write for NetCDF and read for many other
formats, including HDF (something in the back of my brain says they might
have "experimental" HDF writers too. May be worth a look.

Thanks, that looks promising! Of course I didn't even know there was a
distinction between HDF 4 and 5 until now so I have to see which one we
need to implement...

In any case, thanks to everyone who responded.

I had cause to write some Java that read a CDF file a long, long time ago.

I think I found some Java examples and code for that. Isn't CDF a cousin of HDF? Not that this does you any good....
