I assume there will soon be a CVS tag to accompany this beta release?
For now I guess HEAD is the same as the release.

Bartz, Klaus

Hi Brian,
just downloaded and installed.

One good, one bad news.
The good:
The registry key
HKLM\SOFTWARE\SUNW\Jai ImageIO Tools\1.1\JaiImageIOHome
is now in a manner I can use easy.

Thank you in advance for your fast response to my report.

The bad:
If 1.1-alpha is allready installed, the installer fails on my
Windows box (2k) trying an update.
At installation an error occurs:

Error 1316.A network error occurred while attempting to read from
the file C:\DCOKUME~1\bartzkau\LOKALE~1\Temp\_is1888\JAI Image IO
Tools 1.1-alpha for JDK.msi

then a message about Error. -1603

and then the typical "completed message" of Install Shield made MSI with
the message that the installation was interrupted written in a little
font without any accentuation (I know, that is part of Install Shield or
MSI, not of JAI). Why a bold written "completed" at an interrupted
installation?

Reason for the error:
The installation creates the dir at unpacking the exe, but there is not
the named msi file, else
JAI Image IO Tools 1.1-betta for JDK.msi
If I rember right to MSI, it is not possible to change the name of the
MSI file during made a minor update. It have to be a "big" update (or
upgrade or what ever MSI means to say to such a thing).

No big problem to handle with the problem:
First unistall JAI Image IO Tools 1.1-alpha
Second install JAI Image IO Tools 1.1-beta as new installation (not update)
Works fine.

Cheers

Klaus

Klaus,

Thanks for the detailed report on this. We were unaware of it.

I can take all the blame for the InstallShield installers as I wrote them from
scratch. I will refrain here from commenting on the pain involved in this
process.

If you think the reported problem is serious, please file an issue about it in
jai-imageio-core. It probably be a P5.

Thanks,

Brian
