Needs more cowbell.

...but seriously, it's a tech demo, what is there not to like about it?

A video of the demo and a technique paper describing how it was done is here: http://www.indietechnologies.com . Stop by the booth if you are at JavaOne. The image quality is better than the video can show and there's no other way to see the 'particle time' pausing and circle strafing of the particle effects.

Hey, cool stuff.

I don't like the JavaOne-Demo, but the other demos are cool.

greetings,

What would you change about it?

Java 3D is a general 3D graphics engine.

Game engines are tweaked for games, such as First Person Shooter extensions, may incorporate physics.
But my answer to Java 3D being a game engine is....I don't know.

I've been working on a minimalist FPS game engine to use in a class I'm teaching. I say minimalist because I've been trying to do things in the simpliest fashion so the code is more educational with as few distractions as possible. I also limited the use of OO code to more closely mimic a "c" application.

Check this out : http://www.indietechnologies.com/

We will be showcasing a demo done by indie technologies at our booth in this year JavaOne.

any more and pleas can they be bassed on java 3d :-0

We at Interlab develop "enJine", a Java 3D-based game engine for
educational use that is available under the GPL at:

http://incubadora.fapesp.br/projects/enjine

The 'Files' section of the site contains a fairly recent build plus
tutorials and some documentation.

When accessing the CVS, please check out module 'enJine3' as the other
modules contain older versions kept for reference/project history.

This seem to be a neat little game engine. Are more things going to be added like loaders, physics, etc?

Ricardo Nakamura

Thanks for your interest, I'll try to write a summary of what
development activities are going on in the project:

Currently we are reworking the sound classes, which at the moment only
provide minimal services, into a more complete implementation. We are
also working on tools to load 3D models on the enJine - we have
developed a Java 3D loader for Anim8or models that will be adapted to
the Viewable/Updater structure of the enJine.

As for physics, we have studied the possibility of adding support to
OdeJava, but at the moment we are not working on this.

In the near future, we have plans to add some network support to the
enJine. We intend to continue development of the enJine, as it has been
a useful tool in our laboratory and hopefully, it will be useful to
others as well.
