I try to run a simple program that basically keep updating the database records.
The same program runs under
SunOS which is 10 times slower than under Window XP.
Are there anything I can do to identify the problems?

JVM: both are using JVM_1.4.2_04
Heap Size: -Xmx512m -Xms512m

Million thanks in advance.

SunOS-5.9 is quite old so I guess it running on an old machine whereas the XP box is quite likely a modern PC.

Gosh... we should really have a FAQ about this.

Well, the Tuning White Paper talks about
several of the issues:

Among the things to consider are:
- hardware differences
CPU: number, speed, L1 cache, etc.
Bus speed
- Is the database on one of these machines or a
third machine?
- Are the network interfaces and networks of
comparable speed?
- Is the database restored to a consistent state
before every test?
- How did you measure the time to update the
- How many trials did you run on each platform?
- Which JDBC driver did you use?
Are they the same type (is one native and
the other not)?
- What else is running on each of these systems
at the time of tests.
- etc. etc.
