I am no developer but a bootable iso similar to knoppix but containing project looking glass would be brilliant so it creates a big ramdisk and then asks you to select nvidia or ati and fires up x with the PLG 3D desktop...
I guess we have a chicken - egg problem.
But IMHO, one way to get 'alot of applications' is to have a bootable and preferably hard disk installable iso ASAP. My minimum would be to have the development tools and a browser working.
So what if it's less than beta quality software. Having milestones like 'tester quality releases' can be a very positive driver of development.
Release early, release often, isn't that what OSS is all about?
Yes, having a Looking Glass live demo cd would be great. However, with the limited number of applications that currently work with LG3D isn't it a little too early? It may turn people of if they are not able to do anything useful in the beginning.
What do others think?
I think it is a great idea. Please file a "Feature" using the Issue tracker so that we don't forget the idea. If someone could help us on this, it would be great. As qgonjon pointed out, it is a bit too early, but definitely a good idea to keep track.
As a related topic, I often get asked to implement a operation playback feature, or scripting feature to describe demo sequence so that we can demo features automatically. I've posted Issue (feature) 60 on this.
A bootable iso would be great. Is there going to be an iso? A JDS looking glass iso would be nice. It would allow more focus on the looking glass project and less on 'trying to get it to work' issues.
First things first I say.
Maybe we could convince someone with Knoppix experience to do an iso if Sun doesn't want to.
