Hi,

I am trying to install jai and uses "jai_imageio-1_0_01-lib-windows-i586-jre" exe installer.

Then when I try to import i.e. com.sun.media.jai.codec.SeekableStream it says that
"package com.sun.media.jai.codec does not exist.."
I have tried all kinds of path:s.. but without any luck.. what am I doing wrong?

Regards

Bill

at first blush it seems like you're saying that you've installed using
the JRE installer (as opposed to the JDK installer), and are trying to
compile JAI dependent code (as opposed to just trying to run the
compiled code).. is this the case?

at any rate, if you want to explicitly man-handle classpaths, the
installer should have dumped the jars inside your lib/ext directory for
where-ever it determined (or you specified) the jre to live.

Hi,
Thanks for the quick answer..
What I am trying to do is develop a small program using aspose´s powerpoint classes wich needs jai, jai advances image classes...
It is when I run that program it say that it cant find: "com.sun.media.jai.codec.SeekableStream"..
I have tried to put "clibwrapper_jiio.jar" and "jai_imageio.jar" files in lib/ext catalogs.. and made the classpath correct (I think :) )
Maybe it is another jar file I need, but theese are the ones I get when downloading the zip files..

Regards

Bill /Newbie.. :)

that specific class you name is in the jai_codec.jar.

since all the jars should all be installed in the lib/ext directory
(which, by definition, should have all jars inside of it picked up
automatically on the startup of the vm (spawned by the java binary in
the associated bin directory)), have you tried explicitly specifying
the path to the java executable when launching your program (in case of
PATH problems)?

for example, if the jars have been stuck in:
c:\jdk\jre\lib\ext
have you tried
c:\jdk\jre\bin\java ...
to run your program (as opposed to just "java ...")?

hope this helps,
loki

Hi again.. :) ,
I havent the "jai_codec.jar" file.. shouldn't it be in the installation program/zip file?
Maybe thats the problem? :)
I only have "clibwrapper_jiio.jar" and "jai_imageio.jar" files...
where do I (if that´s the case) find that file...

Regards..

hi again :- )

ach - ok .. i see a/the root of the problem - from re-reading your
original post, you've only installed the image i/o libs, not the jai
core libs. you can download the latter from here:
http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/jai/downloads/download
-1_1_2_01.html
