i am doing my undergraduate project , i am using java , mainly the project works in image manipulating or it is image relevant , few days ago i stucked in a little problem , my problem is that i want to put an image scanned from scanner into array or anything ( that makes me reach my goal which is go to specific locations in the image to gather the pixel colour on that location ) , for my project that's so critical to complete the job so , now am studying JAI very hard to complete this job , so your help is important to shorten the time , also if there any tool that can analyze the picture & provide the main skeleton of it ( the components of the image [ e.g: if the image contain a circle then the tool will provide you with the circle's middle point and arc and so on ..] ) that will be helpful .

You will need to use an external package to get the image from the
scanner into an array, JAI does not contain functionality to do that.

JAI does not provide operations that will recognize objects within an
image, however JAI does provide many operations (such as edge detection)
that can be used as the building blocks for implementing image analysis
algorithms.
