HI!

i am new to jai.

Is there a way to set the alpha of an image?
I would also like to convert any image into Type ARGB.
In java2d this is easy.
Could you give me a hint on where to look.
Does jai have a preferred imagedata format for best performance?

Thanks

lemi

You can combine different images band-wise using the "BandMerge" operation.
For example you could add a 1-band alpha channel to a 3-band RGB image to get
ARGB. You would need to supply an ImageLayout containing an ARGB ColorModel.
This ImageLayout is in the RenderingHints passed to the operation.

The requirements for native acceleration of operations to be invoked are given
here:

http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/jai/README-1_1_3.html#Native%20A...

As a gross generalization the most efficient layouts for JAI will be pixel
interleaved component data for images with bit depths which are a multiple of
8, and multi-pixel packed layouts for bilevel data.
