SpringLayout

As the examples indicate if all springs in a layout have preferred==maximum, then the components don't move when the container's size is increased past the maximum. However if any maximum value exceeds the preferred value, then any extra space is distributed amongst all such springs without respecting the actual maximums.
In my opinion layouts would look better if such excess extra space was always added to the bottom/right in the container and not distributed within the layout. Anyone else agree? What is the recommended way of fixing this?

The behaviour when a container is reduced to less than the minimum is also rather unsatisfactory.
