When I use JOptionPane to use messages, so far they don't seem to be accessible using JAWS. I'm not experienced with JAWS. Is JOptionPane accessible? Is there a particular way I should use JAWS to get at the message being displayed? I'm using the accessibility bridge.

Kyle,

JOptionPane does implement Accessible. Unfortunately,
I don't know too much about the accessibility classes
yet, but let me see if I can get some more info for you
from someone who does.

Hi,

From what I understand, JAWS doesn't read the accessibleDescription or accessibleName of dialogs. We've been unable to either get JOptionPane to read properly via JAWS or to work around this issue by forcibly setting the accesibleDescription or accessibleName.

I understand that Freedom Scientific are aware of the issue are are working on resolving it in future.

Brian,

Thanks. That confirms what I've been seeing. I hope FreedomScientific gets a JAWS update out sometime soon.

Does anyone know if JAWS has fix the problem in 5.0?
I tried the demo version of 5.0, but seemed getting the same problem. It didn't read the JOptionPane messages.

Thanks.

This is not a bug for JAWS. It is a java bug. Sun says it will fix it in Java 1.5. You can try it.
