JXTable has AA fonts switched on by default...WHY?

I just tried the latest weekly of JDNC and noticed that the JTableHeader used by JXTable seems to display column headers using AA fonts.

This would be a fine idea, if not for the fact that JDK 5.0 font anti-aliasing under Windows 2000 on my box is exceedingly poor and only blurs the text instead of making it look smoother or nicer...the poorly anti-aliased headers stand out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of the app.

how can I switch OFF this behavior in JXTable? (which besides that is an amazing improvement over the base JTable I must say from a productivity point of view...)

This was done as a temporary experiment to see if it improved the
default look of table headers and, as you acutely point out, it
doesn't improve the overall app appearance one iota!

JDNC may want to support making it easy to turn on AA fonts, but
this is obviously not a reasonable solution! Could you file a
bug on this please: https://jdnc.dev.java.net/servlets/ProjectIssues

thanks,

will do.

BTW, just wanted to let you know...trying out JNDC (especially JXTable) was one of the main reasons I finally gave up on SWT...their table implementation is beyond atrocious.

Keep up the great work! :-)

P.S. And tell the Java2D guys to look into that AA a bit more, it's pretty sad right now :-(

We appreciate the encouragement here -- thanks!

Rest assured, anti-aliased fonts are a very hot topic internally
for our 2D team at the moment -- we've had lots of similar feedback lately.
