Hey folks,

I wanted to hold off on this post until Jeanette got back so she could get a fair vote :).

I feel its time to bundle up a .8 release. We've done some good work on bug fixes and some major enhancements since .7, and we really need to get a newer build out.

Should we bundle up a .8 release?

+1 from me

Richard

PS>
We also need to do a better job of getting weekly builds posted on the downloads section of the projects. Fred has been building them for a while, but we need to get them into the downloads area. We'll deal with this following the .8 release.

Are you talking about releasing .8 now, or in a couple of days?

I figure it'll be when the voting timeframe expires -- two days left :)

2 days... it will be ready if you want to include it. ;)

Richard,
I believe deployment is ready, but I was curious how sub-projects would be bundled. Would the "Swinglabs" bundle pull the jars and docs for each sub-project into an appropriate top-level directory, or will each sub-project just be a self contained directory under the top-level "Swinglabs" directory?

Basically:
swinglabs/
dist/
databinding-0.8.0.jar
jdic-0.8.0.jar
swingworker-0.8.0.jar
deployment_ant_task-0.8.0.jar
deployment_jnlp_servlet-0.8.0.jar
swingx-0.8.0.jar
(etc)
images/
(various images for the docs)
lib/
jga-0.7.2-cddl.jar
index.html
README.html
ReleaseNotes.html
swinglabs-0.8.0.jar
swinglabs.css
swinglabs-0.8.0.jar contains SwingX, SwingWorker, DataBinding, and as of right now, JDIC. However, if that's too much, the per-sub-project jars are in dist.

+1. I've heard of more folks not active on this forum wanting to see
some movement and latest bits.

+1 from me, it does not hurt and helps get some feedback/press.

Will it be a release for all SwingLabs projects or only swingx/
databinding/jdnc?

CruiseControl is building them... There is the javanettasks java.net
project which provides ant tasks to deal with java.net files,
issues... They could be used, added to my TODO list.

Not all of the subprojects, but it will contain:

SwingX
DataBinding
SwingWorker
JDIC
JDNC

If Erik feels deployment.dev.java.net is ready to go, we'll include that one too.

For Swingx and DataBinding, would a release .8 be any different from the weekly builds?

A release containing all the subprojects mentioned would be too much for me.

I thought development on JDNC was on hold

+1 for this. I think a link at least to the weekly builds page should be a high priority.
I only stumbled across them by accident while reading old posts. Now I download nearly every one (as my ISP limit allows)

It'll be bundled a bit differently, have release notes, etc. As far as the bits are concerned, they'll be the same.
