Setting 'Desktop Background' (wall paper) API proposal

Anyone, interested in a Java API being able to set the desktop background wallpaper.

As you all probably know that all modern desktops all support setting the background of your desktop. Some even support animation. Wouldn't it be nice to allow programs that organize and customize your desktop backgrounds.

I have sample code for the Windows platform.

IMHO, the client user experience is key! (API user and application user)

I'm going to try. The book, the new job, and moving to SF have kept me
pretty busy. I've got some new articles waiting in the wings, though.

That would be really cool.
Perhaps we should create a general purpose incubator project where
people could contribute small little functions like this that would
make life easier for other developers.

Thanks guys,

I agree. While Java does deliver the steak, it definitely needs a little more sizzle. I think all Java developers should think WORA is always an on going thing.

Hi Carl and Josh,

I also think the API to set the desktop background wallpaper is good. Carl, as you already have sample code for the Windows platform. What the javadoc and sample code using it looks like?

And I do agree, we need to do something to make such things easier, instead of making one incubator project for each such single API. I'll get back soon.

We've tried to make the JDIC APIs simple, clean but useful. Even though they are "small" APIs one by one, they bridge the gaps between J2SE and native desktops. :-)

Cheers ~
-George.
