Solution for JavaHelp 2.0 problems

Dear Binky,

I read there are known problems with JavaHelp 2.0 like
the ones in JavaHelp 1.1.3 e.g.
- highlighting in darkblue
- truncated search results
- setting the icon of the JavaHelp project
- chopped images with scrolling

I also read that Software7 has a solution for jh 1.1.3 but what about
jh2.0 ? Is there in the future a new release of JavaHelp 2.0 where the
problems are fixed by Sun itself instead of manifacturers of JavaHelp
tools ?

With kind regards

Some of the problems listed above are properly fixed in future JDKS
rather than providing an inappropriate fix in the JavaHelp itself.
Others have been fixed in the current relase of JavaHelp or will be in
the next release of JavaHelp.

And when is the next JavaHelp release due? The last I heard was
July/August, by how much has that slipped?

Mark,

We provided the JavaHelp team with the solution to the truncated search
results problem. This was fixed in the newest version of JavaHelp (2.0_01).

Setting the icon of the JavaHelp project is now possible with the new
"presentation" feature in JavaHelp 2.0.

An important hint, if you are integrating the help into the application:
There is currently a bug in JH 2.0 which requires to call the presentation
by name even if it's designated as "default" presentation. So if your
default presentation is called "MainWindow" you have to write:

HelpBroker hb = helpSet.createHelpBroker("MainWindow");

Then all attributes including the image icon attribute should be recognized.

The highlighting in darkblue and chopped images are not JavaHelp issues,
instead that are issues in the J2SDK.

I think I read somewhere, that newer version of the J2SDK don't have the
problems with the darkblue and the chopped images anymore.

Hope this helps,

Stephan
