Our #1 priority is to support programmable shaders in the next release
of Java 3D, which is the main focus of OpenGL 2.0.

Btw, calling this release of OpenGL 2.0 is more of a marketing decision
than a technical one, since it is backward compatible with OpenGL 1.5.
What the OpenGL ARB has done is pretty much the same thing that they
usually do -- taken popular ARB / EXT extensions and rolling them into
the next version as part of the core.

Having said that, this is a good step, because it standardizes the
shading language in the OpenGL core.
