Java3D loaders, which one is the best one?

I've been trying to load some objects to j3d, but it seems that all loaders included in j3d are out of date (1998). The lightwave loader supports version 5.0, and the latest lightwave is version 8.

Do you know which loader should I use. Most 3d programs allows to export models to different formats, so I guess it doesn't really matter which one as soon as it's up to date.

What are your suggestions?

Thanks

To get an overview about the different (separate) loader packages out there I'd recommend http://java3d.virtualworlds.de/loader.php - please pay attention to the date in the last row of the table ;-)

Lightwave modeler should still be able to save pre 6.0 format files (LWO2 to LWOB). IIRC, this is done through a saver plugin.

I tryied to exported scene in lightwave 7 to version 5.6 (thats the only option I have), and it didn't work. I was reading somewhere that the loader works only with version 5.0, but I don't know if that's true.

Despite the date of it, (1997) the vrml 2 loaders have worked well for
me. I think it was a more robust file format at the time than most other
formats, so it has survived better and only gone through one major update
(vrml 3 is x3d) so worrying about revisions is moot.

I never tryied VRML, but I will check this out. That might be the answer to my problems. I know that from lightwave It's possible to export scene to VRML.

The thing I want to do is very simple I just want to be able to create objects in 3D sofware and then export them to java3d. I don't need any complex functionality like lights, animations etc.. just a simple objects, I can do the rest in j3d.

in this case Wavefront OBJ can also works fine for you.
