Java 3D 1.4.0-build6 is now available on java.net:

https://java3d.dev.java.net/binary-builds.html#Stable_builds_1.4.0

The new picking API, including the PickInfo class, is now implemented. Shader support for samplers is also available as long as you don't use more texture units than are supported via the fixed function pipeline, and don't have any disabled texture units. Initial support for vertex attributes is available (for by-copy, non-indexed-mode only). These limitations will be fixed in the beta1 (aka build7) release.

You can also access build6 via JNLP:

https://j3d-webstart.dev.java.net/release/index.html

Let us know if there are any questions or problems.

I have some questions regarding that:

1) Is the new API faster than picktool 1.3?
2) Is the new API less garbage producing than picktool 1.3? (beside from bug 80/140)
3) Is the new API faster than the picktool 1.4?
4) Is the new API less garbage producing than picktool 1.4?
5) Would you say it is as stable as 1.3.2 right now?

The new picking APIs should improve overall picking performance, esp. Shape3D with high vertex count.
We have yet to do a thorough benchmarking, but initial testing with very simple geometry showed no performance regression.

Lesser garbage is guarantee, esp. if you choose not to have the returned SceneGraphPath array.

It passes all picking examples we have. Please test it out, any feedback on bugs or performance will be greatly appreciated.
