3D fractal flames

I've been working on 3D flames for a couple of months now. Generating the flame, then creating an ISOsurface polymesh, then rendering a still image in Maya. There are a few images in my DeviantArt gallery to where you can see the results.
They have been disappointing because so much detail is lost in the process they end up looking melted. Even with the melted look, a static image doesn't do the fractal justice.
So I've developed a way to capture the fractal as a transparent volume and spin it to make a fully animated view of the wispy details.
The first one is located here: http://www.deviantart.com/view/27394343/
Hope you like it.

Don, You might find my Java3D particle system article useful. Fractals, noise and Java3D are used to create a variety of effects including an elementary flame example. Source code is included.

Sure, as long as you don't make fun of the incredibly sloppy state it's currently in :)
