$ jdk1.6.0/bin/java -version
java version "1.6.0-rc"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.6.0-rc-b68)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.6.0-rc-b68, mixed mode, sharing)

As Ray Gans points [http://weblogs.java.net/blog/ray_gans/archive/2006/01/where_we_are_wi.html],
the beta will be released on february, but some latest builds of mustang displays it as RC.
So, what is RC on "java -version" for mustang latest builds ?

Good catch. The "rc" refers to builds leading up to release candidate which will happen later this year. This rc designation will probably soon change to beta2. We just haven't gotten around to updating it yet.

That's a bug. Java is not RC yet, and there is no publicly announced date for when RC will come.

Sorry for the confusion.

Mike.
