"Services Wave" Causing Disruption says Gates
Ten years ago in a famous memo, Gates described the "Internet Tidal Wave" that was going to change the computing landscape forever. Five years ago, Gates launched Microsoft's .NET strategy which was based on XML and web services allowing programs to exchange data over the Web now embedded in over 92% of the Fortune 100. Now in 2005, everything is changing again.
"The next sea change is upon us", says Bill Gates in a memo to his top executives and "distinguished engineers". He says, "The coming "services wave" will be very disruptive" as he urges his senior staff to "act quickly and decisively" to take up the opportunities presented by the "grassroots" adoption he says is shaping the next generation of the Internet.
