ATI OpenGL on Windows Problems

Hi,

I'm having some trouble with OpenGL pipeline in Mustang build 43 (and previous builds too). Just trying out SwingSet I'm experiencing EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION's in the virtual machine. Also most colors are rendered wrong, especially when rendering bitmaps. The Direct3D pipeline works fine on my machine (ATI Radeon 9800 XT driver version 6.14.10.6553).

Are these known issues or should I submit bug reports?

Bas

Hi Bas,

Yes, these are known issues with ATI's drivers. We've been pushing them to get them fixed for a number of months. See the comments in my recent blog entry for more of my thoughts:
http://weblogs.java.net/blog/campbell/archive/2005/07/strcrazier_perf.ht...

I'll repeat again what I said there:
"If anyone else with ATI boards are feeling frustrated by these issues, please let them know via the feedback form on their driver download pages. Sometimes it helps to let them know that these problems affect thousands of users, not just a handful."

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your response. I have done what you suggested and opened a ticket with ATI about the problems I have been having. Hopefully they will respond.

I also want to follow the issues on Sun's side, but when I search in Sun's java bug database I can't find the crashes I experience. Do you have any link to bug reports I should watch for relevant info? Or perhaps I should file some myself?

Thanks,
Bas

Hi Bas,

I discussed these issues with ATI again this week and submitted a few new bugs, and they've all been escalated internally, so I hope that they will be fixed soon. Thanks for reporting your concerns to ATI as well; it helps to stay vigilant.

There are two umbrella bugs in our database that cover a few of the known issues:
http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=5066318
http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=5033205

Unless you are experiencing wildy different bugs from the ones reported there, hold off on filing new bug reports on our system. We're already tracking the issues with ATI, so there's no need for new reports on our side.

Thanks,
Chris
