Hi. We're looking for a means to deploy services across a varied set of transports (i.e. HTTP, SMTP, etc.) yet with disparate bindings/encodings. From what I've read, it seems JAX-RPC 2.0 et al. allows for this however I'm not entirely sure where to begin. Can anyone offer any pointers, hints or advice with this sort of thing? We're hoping to develop a prototype based on JAX-RPC 2.0 as a proof of concept that demonstrates this flexibility to our management here.

Curious.

Curious,
The specification does indeed allow for this, but it only requires SOAP over HTTP. The reference implementation has not gotten to the point where we can implement any other bindings yet.

The JAX-Mail (http://jaxmail.dev.java.net) project provides support for Mail protocols (SMTP and POP) but it is based on the older JAX-RPC 1.1 code base. We would very much welcome porting of that to JAX-RPC 2.0... hint, hint! We might even be able to get Sameer (the original author for jaxmail) to help and I know of at least one other developer that was interested in this area.

If you happen to be interested, please let us know.

Excellent idea. I am indeed interested. Such an endeavor would serve our purposes equally well and provide a great deal of insight. How do we get started?

Good.

Let me send mail separatedly to you and Sameer and we can see how to move forward. We can post the result of our exchange here, in case other people want to join in.
