I am looking to write a distributed application. I have been reading about Jini, and it seems like a pretty awsome framework.

My question is why should I write the framework for my application
in java vs. another language like (C# or C++)?

I guess my app would be using a web services type model, but I am concerned about performance problems routing over the internet.

My goal in developing the server system is to not lock myself into having to use Java or one language for that matter to program the client interfaces.

I would rather use C++ or C# to do the GUI programming because I have not come across a Java based GUI app that isn't dog slow.

Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

For GUIs, use SWT (www.eclipse.org/swt). Its written in Java, but uses native UI widgets.
