I know that Java Web Start has improve many feature in J2SE 5.0. However, I think, the installation process is still not simple. We have to prepare many file, pack it in WAR file and deploy or copy to server. I know that some specification of JWS was improved to support installation from local machine but I am not clear about it yet. Sorry if this is duplicate.

1. I would like the JWS can launch WAR file to extract and install automatically on a local machine. I think, this implementation is not hard because it is just extract, pass/parse JNLP file to JWS and copy file.

2. If possible, JDK may has an installation packaging tool for prepare WAR file that may has a feature, setting, build (compile, make JAR,sign, etc.). This tool may be applied to make Applet installation package too.

You may want to have a look at the JDIC packaging tool -- it can prepare native installation packages for Windows, Linux, and Solaris, given a webstartable application.

I'd like to extend JNLP to use it for command line applications and services as well. More options on when to update (for apps which allow offline use) would also be nice.

Uh, I don't like native installation that we have to prepare many platfrom installation package. We can use JWS and has only one standard installation for Java.
