So I was rebooting my Time Warner Cable cable box and noticed the Axiom OCAP "powered by Java" screen and being a Java developer myself, I immediately thought I would love to hack/program my box but have no idea what I'm dealing with.

How can I get started writing programs for the box or writing programs to interact with the box via network/SNMP/API? Tools? Emulators? etc.

Thanks very much!

A reasonable place to start is the OCAP-RI home page: http://java.net/projects/ocap-ri/pages/Home
You will find links and information about the OCAP-RI (OpenCable Application Platform - Referenece Implementation) and the TWB (Tru2way WorkBench, an Eclipse based SDK). There are various resources for learning more about OCAP - a web search is your best bet.
