If and when I install a pre-release of JDK 8 on a Mac OS X machine, how do I revert back to JDK 7 for plugin and IDE's on the system? As it stands, going to "System Preferences" in Mac OS X 10.8, selecting "Java" in the "Other" category down at the bottom presents the dialog that advises "The Java Control Panel opens in a separate window." Once the Java Control Panel pops up, there's a "Java" tab which says you can "View and manage Java Runtime versions and settings for Java applications and applets." Hit the [View...] button to get a window that lists the following single entry without any obvious way to switch to a different JRE/JDK for browsers and IDE's:
Platform: 1.7
Product: 1.8.0-ea
Path: /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin/Contents/Home/bin/java

Back when the Java preferences where not the Oracle Java Plugin, you were actually able to switch back and forth between run times. How do you do this using the Oracle Java Plugin and how do you switch over from JDK8 to something else if you have installed a pre-release of JDK8 from Thanks. Best regards, -- DanG
