Thanks, I downloaded this file and see the jar files "jai_core.jar" and "jai_codec.jar".
I need to find a class "com.sun.media.imageio.stream.StreamSegmentMapper", which don't seem to be in either jar file however. So need some follow-up questions.
Is the "jai" project related to "jai-imageio" on Java.net?
Where can I find the class "StreamSegmentMapper" in a java only format? Some instructions are refering to "jai-imageio-1.1.jar", but those also install native "dll"s or "so"s which I cannot do?
Is a java version of that file in a differnt project here?
Thanks and sorry if there are basic questions.

General comment: I don't know what's going on but lately there have
been a LOT of messages to this list that don't have any context.
Generally it's helpful to include at least a little of what you're
replying to as context for others, if you want their help.

I have no idea what you downloaded so I can't answer that. However, you
should have at least jai_codec.jar, jai_core.jar, and
mlibwrapper_jai.jar for JAI; and clibwrapper_jiio.jar and
jai_imageio.jar for iio-tools. Even if you're using java only, you
still need the "wrapper" jars.

jai-imageio contains two things: a set of IIO plugins, and a pair of JAI
operators. If you don't use the operators, you shouldn't need JAI; the
plugins work with core Java. If you do, then you do need JAI.

For the java-only version you can grab any version of the distribution
you want, unpack it, and pull out just the jars. Doesn't matter if
there's dll's or so's with that, just ignore those. The java bits are
all the same across all distros.

Sorry for not having including the context. I was hoping to minimize the size of the message.
Here is some context:
I want to be able to read DICOM files (medical images), so according to some blogs jai-imageio might be useful. The software I'm proto-typing those cannot require anyone to install any native (dll or so) files. (a) many users wouldn't have admin rights to the machine and (b) I want very little friction to setting up the software.
So, jai-imageio might be useful but only if I could get a java only version of it.
I'm new to this area and how Java.net specifically is setup. It seems several project call Java Advanded Imaging exist. Some refer to a 1.2 version of the implmentations and others dont.
What I downloaded as a file called "jai-1_1_3-lib.zip". It has in it only "jai_core.jar" and "jai_codec.jar". Where could I get the other jar files mentioned?

I'm surprised about the java-only zip file, it might be mis-packaged.

You can download any of the .tar.gz files for any other platform; the
jars are there.

JAI itself works fine in java-only mode, just discard the .so's.
JAI-imageio does too in a general sense, but some of the file format
plugins have native-only code with no Java implementations. If you're
unlucky enough as to need one of those, it won't work. But most of them
do have java-only implementations.

I confirmed that the Java-only version of 1.1.3 does NOT have the other jar files. Can someone create a package with those files PLEASE!!
Here is the link I downloaded from:
https://jai.dev.java.net/binary-builds.html AND clicked "jai-1_1_3-lib.zip" under "Java (no native acceleration)"

Second I tried the "jai-1_1_3-lib-linux-amd64.tar.gz" It adds mlibwrapper_jai.jar but NOT clibwrapper_jio.jar or jai_imageio.jar !!!

Where can I get those last two jar files!! Thanks.

You don't require those wrappers to run Java-only. At least I'm not using
them running my imaging application Java-only on Mac, Windows, and Linux.
AFAIK those files are the binding to native libraries.
