Hi Marcio,

are you able to take Glassfish threads dump (using jstack), when you see
the problem?

Thanks.

WBR,
Alexey.

Hi,

I found this thread (http://www.java.net/node/704007) searching for
possible causes of Glassfish hang during stop operation.
Does anyone knows what could cause such issue? And most important, how
avoid situations like that?

I got a case where Glassfish didn´t stop after 12 minutes since stop
command was detected on server.log
- This instance uses Glassfish Version 2.1.1 running on a Windows 2003
Server within JDK 1.6.0.18
- The domain is a cluster although it´s a standalone server.
- For JMS services we have a OpenMQ 4.5 running in remote mode
- Start/Stop commands are performed through Windows Services Tool since
Glassfish is installed as a service.

I attached server.log files in case someone would like to take a look.
On this file is possibile to see:

*a) Glassfish detected a shutdown request*
[#|2012-06-13T08:37:51.785-0300|INFO|sun-appserver2.1|javax.enterprise.system.container.web|_ThreadID=34;_ThreadName=RMI
TCP Connection(2344)-127.0.0.1;Sun GlassFish Enterprise Server
v2.1.1;|WEB0303: Stopping Sun GlassFish Enterprise Server v2.1.1|#]

*b) Few minutes later it was still trying to connect to remote JMS instance:
*
[#|2012-06-13T08:49:17.897-0300|WARNING|sun-appserver2.1|javax.jms|_ThreadID=41;_ThreadName=iMQEventHandler-2;_RequestID=c6249069-c536-4a43-8d09-bb435a3d0256;|[C4003]:
Error occurred on connection creation [localhost:6677]. - cause:
java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect|#]

*c) System is rebooted and just after this Glassfish initialize:*
Jun 13, 2012 8:53:17 AM
com.sun.enterprise.admin.servermgmt.launch.ASLauncher buildCommand

Any insight would be very appreciated. Thanks.

David Zhao

Hi Márcio,

Version 2 is pretty old. Do you consider upgrading your GlassFish to the latest release 3.1.2?

Thanks,

David Zhao

Subject: Glassfish won't stop

Hi,

I found this thread (http://www.java.net/node/704007) searching for possible causes of Glassfish hang during stop operation.

Does anyone knows what could cause such issue? And most important, how avoid situations like that?

I got a case where Glassfish  didn´t stop after 12 minutes since stop command was detected on server.log

- This instance uses  Glassfish Version  2.1.1 running on a Windows 2003 Server within JDK 1.6.0.18

- The domain is a cluster although it´s a standalone server.

- For JMS services we have a OpenMQ 4.5 running in remote mode

- Start/Stop commands are performed through Windows Services Tool since Glassfish is installed as a service.

I attached server.log files in case someone would like to take a look.

On this file is possibile to see:

a) Glassfish detected a shutdown request
[#|2012-06-13T08:37:51.785-0300|INFO|sun-appserver2.1|javax.enterprise.system.container.web|_ThreadID=34;_ThreadName=RMI TCP Connection(2344)-127.0.0.1;Sun GlassFish Enterprise Server v2.1.1;|WEB0303: Stopping Sun GlassFish Enterprise Server v2.1.1|#]

b) Few minutes later it was still trying to connect to remote JMS instance:

[#|2012-06-13T08:49:17.897-0300|WARNING|sun-appserver2.1|javax.jms|_ThreadID=41;_ThreadName=iMQEventHandler-2;_RequestID=c6249069-c536-4a43-8d09-bb435a3d0256;|[C4003]: Error occurred on connection creation [localhost:6677]. - cause: java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect|#]

c) System is rebooted and just after this Glassfish initialize:

Jun 13, 2012 8:53:17 AM com.sun.enterprise.admin.servermgmt.launch.ASLauncher buildCommand

Any insight would be very appreciated. Thanks.
