We have a site that was just moved onto a new server running 3.1.1, and
I get "Authentication Failed" when I try to log in to the web admin
interface. It was working when I built the machine, but broke some time
during the final cutover, and I can't find what I stepped on. The error
messages in the GlassFish log include these:

java.lang.LinkageError: loader (instance of
org/apache/felix/framework/ModuleImpl$ModuleClassLoaderJava5): attempted
duplicate class
definition for name:
"org/glassfish/admin/rest/resources/generatedASM/Domain_recoverTransactionsInternalResource"

Cannot find annotation org.glassfish.config.support.Create with value
_register-instance on method public abstract com.su
n.enterprise.config.serverbeans.Server
com.sun.enterprise.config.serverbeans.Servers.getServer

Everything else seems to work OK; the site runs normally. Can anybody
suggest a diagnosis?

Are you running jdk7 u2 ?

There are a few bugs filed against 3.1.2 for using jdk 7u2, and the exception is very similar to what you are showing here.

If you are using jdk7 u2, try switching to jdk6 and see what happens.

thanks

We want to stay on JDK7. Is it only u2 that's an issue?

Have you tried and confirm that jdk6 is fine, but jdk7_u2 shows the problem ?

Several bugs filed related to jdk7_u2, and all those issues resolved after http://java.net/jira/browse/GLASSFISH-18133 is resolved.

3.1.2 build 17 (Hard code freeze build) is available now, maybe you can try that.

We're in the midst of cutting over some servers to new machines. In the
process of doing that, we've tried several with both 7u2 and 7u1, and
our experience is that this issue does not appear at all with 7u1.

did the JDK version change at any point? and, is the JDK that's in the PATH and JAVA_HOME at the time glassfish is started also the same as the one that's mentioned in the glassfish/config/* files?

JDK version did not change since installation on the new machine. Path
to JDK, $JAVA_HOME, and asenv.conf are all correct.
