I am having this same problem on Glassfish 3.1.2.2 on Windows 7 running Java 1.6.0_37 & 1.7.0_09. This occurs about 50% of time when starting the server.
The stack dump is:

I'm having the same issue with starting GlassFish 3.1.2 on RedHat RHEL 5.7 using 1.6.0_31 JDK. My server log looks exactly the same.

The stack trace showed that error occurs during the deployment of admin console:

..
Caused by: com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.impl.dv.DVFactoryException: Schema factory class com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.impl.dv.xs.SchemaDVFactoryImpl does not extend from SchemaDVFactory.

Do you get this consistently ?
I will talk to the deployment team to see if they have any idea and suggestions.

Anissa.

The stack trace is from the underlying xercers parser which is part of the JDK. There was one issue reported for 3.1.2 with AIX which is also related to xerces parser. From investigation, that was a bug in IBM JDK 6 SR 10 (SR 9 did not have the problem).

Thanks.

The exception happens every time the admin console is started on that machine. Strangely, I have another server running CentOS 5.5, JDK 1.6.0_31 and GlassFish 3.1.2 (updated from a 3.1.1 install) that never has this problem. I thought maybe the update was the key so I also tried installing a 3.1.1 and updating to 3.1.2 but that didn't change anything.

Any help will be much appreciated.

tldr: same here

long version: after my centos6 wanted to install libGL and icon-themes for tomcat6, and the repository didn't know s*** about glassfish or jboss and tomcat install from tar.gz gave me similar unique to google errors but dating back to last year, I'm desperate to find a way to run kunagi and jenkins soon with you guys having this issue now! ;) I'm new to centos and glassfish.

Actually the admin console working only for localhost lead me to install w3m and with w3m I saw something telling me to wait for a reload. As this never happened (w3m is somewhat limited when it comes to JS) i manually reloaded and saw said blank page. The stack trace I also get when I try to deploy either kunagi or jenkins.

I'm curious, and I'm sure upthread commenters are too, what version of GlassFish and JDK are you running?

Thanks for commenting BTW. Active threads get much more attention from the TPTB and this is becoming kind of an issue for us.

Ok, so the others had the exact same combination of java and glassfish? Would you suggest to try older versions or are chances high this will get attention soon?

What else do you want to know? It's CentOS. The hosting allows upgrading to more CPUs/RAM/HDD ... with some virtualization but if you need details I would need to ask the guy who ordered it.

I have requested our QE team to try reproducing the issues reported in this thread. Here is whats reported back:

>> We have re-tested with IBM jdk SR9 ,, and cannot reproduce the issue on AIX.

>> Also, we tried on Redhat Linux 5.4 and cannot reproduce the issue with jdk 1.6.0_30 or jdk 1.6.0_31.

>> On the machine which has the RedHat 5.7 , I installed jdk1.6.0_31 and the GF 3.1.2 b23, as mentioned in the issue, and was able to launch Console without any issues from both local and remote browsers ( after enabling secure admin for remote access).
Browsers used were : IE9 and firefox 8.0.1 for remote access , and firefox 3.6.18 for local access
GF Installer bundles used were : latest-glassfish.zip, latest-ogs-unix.sh

If you are using the above platform and jdk, and cannot launch the console, there maybe something else in your system configuration that is causing that, unfortunately, we cannot reproduce this.
