I've got a pretty solid basic background, amd am transitioning into java with the hopes of eventually creating an interactive launchpad for some various games. I was wondering if anyone had some basic tips or resources they found useful when dealing with creating a GUI. Hit me with all those juicy links & tips people.

Your question is similar to "Hey, guys, tell me whom I should marry!"

Read API documentation. Read examples which it refers to. For example: http://download.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/ui/index.html

You even do not want to tell which type of UI you are interested in, or which application types - desktop ones or web-based - or may be mobile? All these cases are very different!

Sorry about the ambiguity. I am more interested in desktops applications. I already have a bunch of text based applications writen. Now I'm looking to translate them into a GUI with a dashboard to link them all together.

And thank you for the link! I missed the UI section when I was reading over oracle's tutorial. Probably becasue it's not exactly an intuitively navigated site...

Anyway, thanks again, and if you know of any good sources for someone looking to develop a desktop based UI please let me know.

PS. I already know who I'm going to marry...

CKuhn,
GTK+ is a very popular, easy to use, and compatible GUI program.
It supports most code.
