OSCON Nutshell

The 15th anniversary of OSCON showed its interest in diversity, and continuing to broaden the market for open source technology. I saw a lot of discussions on how to get people interested, and keep people involved. It was remarkably open to all sorts of ideas on how to keep open source going into the future.

I'm not the only one.

Do you know who my current hero is? Jono Bacon. Even for you coders/developers, he's a hand you should shake. He gets community leaders together to think about their community and ways to help it to be better. He helps us to help you, and it's more important than I had realized.

JIRA is back!

Hey, everyone, good news! I know a lot of you (and us) were incredibly frustrated by not being able to access JIRA. There was a security issue, so JIRA was locked down until it was resolved. It’s been fixed, and JIRA issues are viewable to the public again. However, we do have a new restriction that a user must have a software dev or admin role to add attachments to a bug.

My First OSCON

I’m someone who came to this field from a management, as opposed to technical, background. In an effort to understand this website and its users more fully, I am (slowly and painfully) teaching myself basic Java, reading every book handed to me, and jumping at the chance to attend any conference the Oracle Powers That Be will allow.
