If you think P2P networking is simply about file-sharing, you better think again, think open source community (from the very start), and then take a good look at Mohamed AbdelAziz's weblogs here at weblogs.java.net and at blogs.sun.com.
I've written about the economic value and the evolutionary advantage of open source software earlier, but of much greater interest should be what Sun's software Executive VP, John Loiacono, has to say about Open Solaris.
