Windows Vista was released a few weeks ago, and it brings a sophisticated Aero user interface. I've just bought a brand new laptop with Vista on it, and i must say that Aero brings a substantial improvement in the UI experience (note to all Mac users - this is not a comparison between Mac and Windows, so there's no need for flamewars in the comments). So i've installed my development environment...
This is an addendum to the sixth part of the series that describes the additional capabilities that you can get on your tabbed panes. The first part described close buttons and animation on modified tabs The second part described vetoable close buttons and vertical tabs. An article of mine on writing custom Swing components has been published today on java.net. It follows the article on how to write a custom look and feel and the article on enhancing Swing applications with widgets. While this hasn't been implemented yet on the scroll bars, this functionality is now available on the sliders...
I wouldn't be the first to admit it, but my programming skills are much better than my designing / color-matching skills. The ever merciless community won't let me forget this (and i thank you for it). Apparently, people just don't like happy jelly buttons (sigh). And as much as i would like to concentrate on even happier jelly buttons, this is not what my users want (based on the comments on...
